Fourth Letter

Prayer

This is the time of waiting.
Forty days of praying as the day of resurrection approaches.
Uncertain of the outcome or even of what the outcome should be,
We pray that God's Will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.

We are weighed down constantly
By the weight of our thoughts and wishes
Our concerns and fears
Our hopes and desires.

Such weight wraps around our prayers
That they sink before they have a chance to fly.

Dear Lord,
Our Father who art in heaven,
I pray you lift this veil that covers our spirits
Unwrap the cloth that binds us
And allow us to know and feel the freedom that is your true gift to us.

The freedom to be grateful
The freedom to ask for your protection
The freedom to see life in all its glories and its tragedies
The freedom to accept and cease
From the struggle to seize, hold and understand.

Above all, my dearest Lord,
Give us the freedom to live each day to its utmost
To learn to recognise and treasure
Your Spirit that lives within each one of us.
And the freedom never to tire of the waiting.

Amen
